This breathtaking country is the perfect destination for a summer trip because of the superb summer weather, and incredible outdoor opportunities. Canada is huge with a diverse range of vacation opportunities for every kind of traveler. There are Canadian cities for travelers who love culture and art, foodies, and of course, a long list of adventure destinations. Canada has lakes, mountains, rivers, islands, and more! Here are 5 Canadian destinations you need to see for yourself.

1. Haida Gwaii (British Columbia)

Haida Gwaii, formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, is the northernmost archipelago in Canada. Due to its unique location, it is a prime location for diverse wildlife and landscapes and over 500 archaeological sites. Haida Gwaii has an interesting history. In the 1700’s, Captain George Dixon surveyed the islands and named the Queen Charlotte islands after his ship, Queen Charlotte. Only in 2010, did the British Columbia government decide to rename them Haida Gwaii, or the “island of the people” in honor of the Haida people who inhabit and have lived on these islands long before.

2. Banff (Alberta)

Adventure awaits in Banff, the resort town of the Canadian Rockies. It is often hailed as one of the most beautiful destinations in the world for natural scenery, and not without good reason! Despite its popularity as a tourist destination, Banff remains open and unspoiled – a paradise for hikers, kayakers, and wildlife lovers of all kinds.

3. Cavendish (Prince Edward Island)

Prince Edward Island attracts literature lovers from all over the world who are looking to get immersed in the world of Anne of Green Gables. The city of Cavendish was the childhood home of Lucy Maud Montgomery, and her inspiration for the Anne series. But Prince Edward Island is not only noteworthy due to its literary connection, but also being the smallest of the 13 provinces or territories of Canada! With beautiful, grassy beaches and red sandstone cliffs, it doesn’t get more picturesque than PEI!

4. Montreal (Quebec)

Montreal, the only large city in North America where French is spoken! Because of Montreal’s historical French roots, this beautiful city is bursting at the seams with rich cultural experiences. You can get in touch with your foodie side by indulging in Montreal favorite’s such as poutine or tourtiere. Or go back in time with a stroll through the wonderfully preserved streets of Old Montreal. Tastes, sights, and sounds abound in this incredible city!

5. Cape Breton (Nova Scotia)

Do you love exploring new places through long and beautiful drives? Do you want all the views of the rugged Canadian landscapes, but not a long trek on a mountain path? Then look no further than the 185 mile Cabot Trail. This scenic drive will take you through idyllic villages and along miles of rugged coast line. As you drive you may catch a glimpse of bald eagles, or even whales! For a wonderful place to stretch your legs, take a small detour to Uisge Bàn Falls Provincial Park where you can walk to a picturesque, hidden waterfall and enjoy a bit of solitude. For food, you can take a break halfway along the Cabot Trail and enjoy lunch at The Rusty Anchor Restaurant, where you will, of course, find an excellent selection of seafood.
