Arajet

Arajet is the ultra low-cost flag carrier of the Dominican Republic, headquartered in Santo Domingo. Founded by businessman Víctor Miguel Pacheco Méndez, the airline officially launched operations on September 15, 2022, with an inaugural flight to Colombia. It has quickly grown into the largest airline in the country, utilizing a business model aimed at transforming the Dominican Republic into a premier hub for connecting transit across the Americas.
Strategic Hubs and Network
The airline operates dual hubs out of Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana International Airport. Arajet serves nearly 30 international destinations across 17 countries, bridging North, Central, and South America with the Caribbean.
  • North America: Serves key United States cities including Miami, Boston, Chicago, Orlando, and Newark, alongside Canadian routes to Toronto and Montreal.
  • Latin America: Connects passengers to deep South American destinations like Buenos Aires, São Paulo, and Santiago de Chile, as well as Central American cities like San José and Guatemala City.
  • The Caribbean: Offers region-specific flights to Aruba, Curaçao, Jamaica, Sint Maarten, and Puerto Rico.
Fleet and Operations
Arajet operates a standardized, modern fleet comprised entirely of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. By mid-2026, its fleet size reached 16 aircraft with expectations to hit 17 by the end of the year. The carrier boasts one of the youngest fleets globally, averaging under four years of age. In early 2026, Arajet hit a significant regulatory milestone by achieving the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) registration, becoming the first Dominican airline in three decades to secure full IATA membership.
Passenger Experience and Business Model
As an ultra low-cost carrier, Arajet relies on an unbundled pricing strategy where passengers buy a baseline seat ticket and customize their trip with add-ons.
  • Seating: The aircraft feature an all-Economy Class cabin layout, though certain bundled fares provide priority boarding and extra legroom.
  • Baggage and Check-In: Checked luggage, carry-on bags, and airport desk check-ins incur strict extra fees. Passengers are highly encouraged to complete their check-in online to avoid high counter rates.
  • In-Flight Amenities: There is no seatback entertainment system. Snacks, meals, and traditional Dominican beers or cocktails are available strictly for purchase on board.
  • Growth: The airline’s budget-friendly framework has made travel to traditionally expensive South American regions significantly cheaper, driving its passenger volume past one million travelers in the first half of 2026 alone.
