Asiana Airlines
Asiana Airlines is the second largest carrier in South Korea and a long-standing member of the Star Alliance. Headquartered in Seoul, the airline operates its primary international hub at Incheon International Airport and a domestic hub at Gimpo International Airport.
As of early 2026, the airline is in the final stages of a major transition following its acquisition by Korean Air:
- Merger Status: Korean Air finalized the acquisition of a majority stake in Asiana in late 2024. While they currently operate as separate brands, the Asiana name is expected to be phased out by the end of 2026 as operations fully integrate into Korean Air.
- Alliance Membership: Asiana currently remains in the Star Alliance, but this membership is scheduled to terminate in late 2026 upon full integration into Korean Air, which is a member of the rival SkyTeam alliance.
- Fleet and Destinations: The airline serves approximately 90 destinations across Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania. In early 2026, it expanded its European network with new routes to Milan and Budapest. Its fleet includes the Airbus A350-900 and a small number of Airbus A380 “superjumbos” used for high-demand routes like Los Angeles and Sydney.
- Cabin Service: Asiana is known for high-quality service, offering Business Suite (on A380s), Business Smartium (lie-flat), and Economy classes. It also offers “Economy Smartium,” a premium economy product with extra legroom on A350 aircraft.
- Loyalty Program: The Asiana Club program continues to operate for now. Recent updates indicate that existing miles will be protected for 10 years following the eventual integration into Korean Air’s SKYPASS program.
