LOT Polish Airlines

LOT Polish Airlines (Polskie Linie Lotnicze LOT) is the national flag carrier of Poland and one of the world’s oldest airlines still in operation. Founded in 1928, the airline is headquartered in Warsaw and operates its primary global hub at Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW). Its name, “LOT,” translates simply to “flight” in Polish.

Ownership and Fleet
  • Ownership: The airline is majority owned by the Polish Government, with the Polish State Treasury holding approximately 99.8% of its shares. It is part of the Polish Aviation Group (PGL).
  • Fleet: As of early 2026, LOT operates a fleet of 90 aircraft. It was the first European carrier to operate the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which serves as its flagship for all long haul routes. The regional and short haul fleet includes Boeing 737 MAX 8 and Embraer aircraft.
  • Modernization: The airline is currently executing a growth strategy that includes an order for 55 new aircraft to maintain one of the youngest fleets in Europe.

Network and Strategic Expansion
  • Destinations: LOT serves approximately 100 destinations across Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa.
  • Transatlantic Focus: The United States is a key market, with regular service to New York (JFK and Newark), Chicago, Miami, and Los Angeles. A new direct route from Warsaw to San Francisco is scheduled to launch on May 6, 2026.
  • Regional Growth: The airline is expanding its presence at regional Polish airports, recently adding new year round connections from Kraków to Rome, Barcelona, and Madrid.

Alliances and Services
  • Star Alliance: LOT has been a member of the Star Alliance since 2003, providing passengers with global connectivity and benefits across 25 member airlines.
  • Loyalty Program: Instead of its own standalone program, LOT is a fully integrated partner of Miles & More, the largest frequent flyer program in Europe.
  • Service Tiers: On long haul flights, the airline offers three service classes: LOT Business Class (featuring lie flat seats), LOT Premium Economy, and LOT Economy Class.
  • Quality Rating: The carrier is certified as a 4-Star Airline by Skytrax, reflecting its recent investments in onboard products and ground services at Chopin Airport.
