United Airlines
United Airlines is a major American network carrier and one of the largest airlines in the world. Headquartered in Chicago, the airline operates an extensive domestic and international hub and spoke system, with primary hubs located in Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.
As of early 2026, the airline is undergoing a significant strategic expansion and fleet modernization phase:
- Network and Reach: United serves over 370 destinations across six continents. In 2026, it is expanding its international footprint with new nonstop routes to destinations such as Split, Bari, Glasgow, and Santiago de Compostela. It maintains the largest international network among U.S. carriers, including 41 unique destinations not served by any other domestic airline.
- Fleet Modernization: The carrier operates a mainline fleet of over 1,060 aircraft. In 2026, it expects to take delivery of approximately 100 new planes, including its first long range Airbus A321XLR aircraft and at least 20 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
- Onboard Experience: The airline is rolling out its new Elevate cabin interior in 2026. This includes an upgraded Polaris business class featuring doored suites and a new business plus product called Polaris Studio.
- Alliances and Partnerships: United is a founding member of the Star Alliance. It also maintains a unique domestic partnership with JetBlue, known as Blue Sky, which allows for reciprocal loyalty benefits.
- Loyalty Program: Its MileagePlus program is one of the most well known in the industry. Starting in February 2026, all elite members gained the ability to receive complimentary upgrades on award tickets.
